I’ll be talking about Victorian history with novelist Essie Fox, and Kate Nielan and Rob Chilver of Adventures with Words, on 5th March, in Colchester, as part of the Essex Book Festival 2014.
In researching my novel The Sacred River, I became fascinated by English women travellers to Egypt in the 19th century – the things that drew them there and what drove them to leave England. We’ll be discussing how the Victorians travelled, what they wore and took with them, and what kind of attitudes they had towards people in other parts of the world – and vice versa.
The chat takes place in The Waiting Room in The Street With No Name, in Colchester. What a brilliant address! All welcome and tickets are only £5.00 Our discussion will be available as a podcast afterwards.
